We started making this way back in 2009 and have been working on it in our spare time ever since  We screen captured each frame, animating the movement as we went so that we could create camera moves and transitions.   We really wanted to give a sense of the incredible feat which street view represents, to show world famous sites like the Arc De Triumph, the Las Vegas Strip and the Great Barrier Reef; but also spent time on a number of blogs and websites searching for the funny and weird: the New Zealand sheep, the leaves in the lens and the strange camera glitches.  The awesome music was composed specially for the film by our good friend Chris Bristow of Dirty Alice. It was a really fun project that gave us the opportunity to see parts of the world we would never have thought to visit. This film is made up of thousands of images from Google Street View. drummer Robin Rigoulet (Petite Noir, Monarchy, Autokratz) in a stark, minimal, space. Faced with a drum kit rigged with coloured led lights, he begins to play a dramatic score, emitting lights from every single element of the drum kit. src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/2/67166/2125444/MVI_7689edit2_o.png" data-mid="25873220" border="0" align="left"/> The Kinect Our concept for New Look’s video for ‘Nap On The Bow’ grew out of an interest in exploring the possibilities provided by the Xbox Kinect camera.  The Kinect works by emitting thousands of infra-red dots onto a scene which it then interprets in order to track a person, enabling them to play Xbox games through body movement. Alternative uses for the camera have also been widely experimented with and there are lots of great videos and software people have created that use the data in innovative ways. One of them is to use the depth information the camera collects to capture people in 3D. These images with their crude beauty really appealed to us. The Concept Listening to Nap On The Bow we instantly felt we wanted to create something with an under water feel. Looking back at kinect images we really felt that the style of image it created would fit well with New Look’s music. We pitched them the idea of using the kinect to capture their performance and then create an underwater world digitally around them. The band liked the idea and we were then lucky enough to be given time to work with Chris Bristow at the visual effects company Munky in order to research and develop the best workflow to capture the performance and bring it into After Effects where we would then create and edit most of the video. We also experimented with 3D water elements which would fit with our aquatic concept.  Once we’d done a few tests we felt confident we could create a music video. Post Production We shared the tests with the band, they were happy and the work began. They flew over from New York and we shot them using the kinect and then began constructing the videos performance. The way the Kinect captures in 3D meant we could add camera moves and changes in focus afterwards. We were also able to manipulate their footage, making it dissolve and dissipate particles. One other interesting thing we discovered, a product of the fact the camera only collects the 3D data from the angle it sees, this effectively means you get half a 3D image. When you rotate the image 90 degrees past the angle you’ve shot from you suddenly see the inverted version of the image. When looking at the band we found we really liked these inverted versions. They create a really interesting optical illusion as you move back and forth and it was this effect that we utilized to give us the circular tracking shot, which became the centre piece of the video. We wanted the rest of the world surrounding the performance to be in keeping with the glitchy lo-fi feel of the Kinect footage. Ryan Passmore at Munky created 3D water simulations which make up the opening shot of the video as well the bubble and the odd jellyfish/drip like creatures that appear in the first half of the video. To create the bottom of the ocean we once again returned to the kinect, building crude coral like structures which became even more unusual and otherworldy when shot with the kinect.
